RESIST

The Les Basques community is known for its activism around social and environmental issues. In 2002, Mikaël Rioux suspended himself over the Trois-Pistoles River, as a symbol of resistance to the plan to build a 100,000 square meters. From 2003 to 2014, Trois-Pistoles also hosted ÉchoFête, the first environmental festival in Quebec.

Now, other impactful activist initiatives such as the collective housing project and art residency Le Récif, are seeing the light of day. Les Basques residents are also organising events and marches around issues of Indigenous rights, community housing, organic agriculture and much more.
